Setting up a company in Saudi Arabia as a foreign founder
MISA licences, commercial registration, timelines and what startups need. A practical starting point for KSA expansion.
Saudi Arabia is the largest economy in the GCC and a priority market for many founders. Foreign ownership is possible in many sectors.
The usual steps
- Obtain an investment licence from the Ministry of Investment (MISA)
- Reserve a company name and prepare articles of association
- Register the Commercial Registration (CR)
- Complete tax, labour and social insurance registrations
- Arrange visas and open a corporate bank account
Ownership
Service, industrial and agricultural licences can allow 100% foreign ownership. Some activities carry extra conditions.
Timeline
Full setup, including banking and residency, commonly takes three to six months.
Prepare the market while you set up
Build Arabic landing pages and test Saudi campaigns early, so customers are waiting when the licence arrives.
Rules, fees and processes change often. Confirm the details with the relevant authority or a licensed adviser before you commit.
