Expanding from the UAE to Saudi Arabia: a founder's checklist
Saudi Arabia is the GCC's largest market. What changes when UAE startups expand: licensing, language, payments and marketing.
For many UAE startups, Saudi Arabia is the natural next market: a large, young population and significant investment under Vision 2030.
Licensing
Foreign companies typically need a licence from the Ministry of Investment (MISA), followed by commercial registration, tax and labour registrations. Setup commonly takes several months.
Product changes
- Arabic-first experience, not just translated English
- Local payment methods and SAR pricing
- Saudi-specific content and customer support hours
Marketing changes
Saudi audiences are highly active on platforms such as Snapchat, TikTok, X and YouTube. Search behaviour is often in Arabic, so Arabic SEO pages matter.
Test before you move
Run Saudi-targeted campaigns and landing pages from the UAE first. When demand is proven, set up locally.
Rules, fees and processes change often. Confirm the details with the relevant authority or a licensed adviser before you commit.
