Low-cost UAE free zones: what the cheapest package often leaves out
Budget free zones can be a smart start. Here is what to check so a cheap licence does not become an expensive move later.
Several UAE free zones, especially outside Dubai, offer low-cost licences for freelancers and small companies. They can be a good start, as long as the package fits how you will actually trade.
What to check
- Visa allocation: some low-cost packages include none
- Activity list: can you add the activities you will need next year?
- Banking: will banks open an account for this licence type?
- Location: does your customer or partner expect a Dubai or Abu Dhabi address?
- Upgrade path: can you move to a bigger office or another free zone easily?
When a budget zone makes sense
Consultants, freelancers, online service businesses and founders testing an idea often start in a lower-cost zone, then upgrade once revenue is steady.
Prove demand first
If you are not sure the business will work, validate the idea with real buyers before committing to an expensive setup. An MVP and a few paying customers tell you more than any licence.
Rules, fees and processes change often. Confirm the details with the relevant authority or a licensed adviser before you commit.
